Can’t Tusk This Whatever

We told you so. Details after the jump.

Drink Moloko is on top of his blog game, and has given us permission to reprint the summary from his site.

RabbitTusk prevailed as champions of the Nike Futsal Joga Bonita tournament in Los Angeles last night.

Futsal means smaller pitches, smaller ball, but more skill. It began in South America and Nike is bringing it to the shores in the form of the Joga3 tournament. No goalkeepers. No stalling. Just 3 on 3 for 3 minutes. Winner gets a trip to Brazil.

Last nights tournament was one of the most exciting & intense sporting events ever. Seriously. The shit was like a movie. Last second buzzer beaters. Legendary heroics. Dan the Automator on wax. Steve Berra getting foot-jiggy.

Silverlake’s finest, RabbitTusk, dominated the competition in the early weeks of competition but had a slight hiccup in the final week, losing to Team Stussy and Team PMC.
But even with those two losses, RabbitTusk was still the team to beat.

I can’t remember who they beat to get to the finals but it’s not important anyway. What is important is the word “FINALS”.

The final match saw crowd favorite, RabbitTusk, up against Crew West from downtown LA. Crew West came out with guns a-blazing and scored the first goal, which sent shockwaves through the place. It was like the air got sucked out of the universe. RabbitTusk maintained composure but time was slowly ticking away. With the score at 1-0 in favor of Crew West, only 10 seconds left in regulation, and Crew West inbounding the ball at RabbitTusk’s end of the court, things were looking extremely bleak for the team.
Crew West was inbounding the ball and, instead of kicking it downcourt, they tried to get greedy and score again. Kicking it towards the RT goal, it was blocked by Steven who immediately fired a rocket the other way. Steve Berra was standing in its path and as the ball neared, he jumped and spread his legs apart. As that final shot of regulation crossed into the goal, time expired and the crowd went crazy.

The rules for overtime: The teams would both go from 3 players on the court to 2 players for 2 minutes. If no one scored in that overtime, the teams would go down to a one-on-one matchup. The first overtime ended in a tie. The final overtime would see Steve Berra against Ponytail Guy™ and continue until one of them scored.
