An Eye For Annai Video, Artsy

annai

Last night after scouring my house for dinner I found a 16oz bag of honey roasted peanuts. After eating half of the contents I feel into a deep sugar induced slumber only to be sparsely awakened by friendly phone calls inquiring why I was asleep at 8pm. Through my haze I could only answer,”I’m like really tired.” I forced myself awake around midnight and watched a movie in hopes of getting a normal nights sleep. This morning I woke up drymouthed with a slight headache and vowed to never again drown my hunger in sweet peanuts.

Here is a pretty rad animated short by Jonathan Klassen and Dan Rodrigues called An Eye For Annai.

“This film was done by me and Dan Rodrigues in our third year at Sheridan College’s Classical Animation Program. Everything is hand drawn and animated. We coloured the animation digitally, and the backgrounds are a mix of traditional and digital. I played the recorder for the soundtrack, and the jazz music near the middle is from Louis Armstrong’s “Jeepers Creepers”. The whole film comes in at just under 5 minutes long, and we’re pretty darn proud of it. Tell your friends.”

You can see more work from Klassen on his amazing site Burst of Beaden.

Day19 is keeping the ‘zine alive. Whatever, Artsy

Claire and I recently purchased one of these monsters just so we didn’t have to rely on anyone to make our photo ‘zines for us. The problem is when you have it at your disposal you tend to make something massive, and that’s what we did. By far the biggest ‘zine we’ve made to date. 64 full color pages, hand-sewn binding, with photos of everyone from Ice Cube to Sophia that you see here examining one. Cardstock cover designed by Blake E. Marquis. Hand numbered, limited to 500. All photos from the year 2006. This is the one, the one we’ve been waiting to make for years and we couldn’t be happier with it. More photos and ordering info after the jump…

“I Do Adore” is an exhibition of emerging and well established women photographers from across the world. Each of the featured artists have created names for themselves through various outlets from books to magazine features to exhibitions to ad campaigns. One thing that each of these women have in common is their passion and talent for photography. Their styles range from street documentation to editorial, fine art to photo journalism and portraiture. In a fusing of all these different styles from such influential photographers, “I Do Adore” brings with it all the character and emotion that these artists have captured from behind the lens. Every photographer that was invited to be a part of this exhibition has shown the exceptional ability to find the hidden energy within a setting and bring its image to life.

“I Do Adore” originally showed @ Subliminal Projects in Los Angeles and is now travelling to Portland, Oregon. It features the same artists and welcomes Portland based artist Liz Haley. We are all very excited to bring this show to Portland and The Renowned Gallery.

96 Gillespie. London folks, London. Photo, London, Artsy

Yesterday we took a short tube ride to the Arsenal stop to check out Angela Boatwright’s Sorcerers photo show at 96 Gillespie not knowing it was run by Pat Graham and his wife Melanie. We’ve been familiar with Pat’s work for a long time now and it’s funny to finally meet him half way across the globe. Check out photos of this great gallery he runs out here, and if you are ever in London be sure to stop by and say hello. They may even offer you some tea if you’re lucky.
