ahem… Music

Remember that scene in “Fade to Black” where Timbaland asks Jay-Z: “Are you confused?” From the first note of “Splish, splish (y’all don’t really know), the mix seems to ask the same of the listener. The answer is no doubt yes, and Bobby Evans has created a seamless web that we are forced to fall into from the onset. More of the same killer mixes and hard-hitting rap blends that his previous offering “Lead the Field” boasted, with a generous amount of original blends: among them a moment where he actually succeeds in making “Lean wit it, Rock wit it” into a strangely poignant anthem. You’d be hard pressed to find a more stylish feat, and—at least for the time being—you’d be hard pressed to find a rap tape you’d rather listen to.

Antimc has been doing things for a minute now (get familiar), and his new record, It’s Free But It’s Not Cheap finally came out on Tuesday. It’s good. We mean it.

As if that weren’t news enough, the dude has also put out a mixtape of his favorite LA classic jammers. He’s lived here his whole life, so you know he knows the deal. It’s fresh, so we put it in the podcast. It’s called Love Letter to Los Angeles. It’s true. Some people like it here.

I’m Tired As Hell Music, Los Angeles, Video

Now, by now most of you have probably heard about Kanye’s outburst at the MTV Europe Music Video Awards after losing to Justice, so we’re not going to waste your time covering that. Read about it elsewhere.

This is really more of a personal message to Mr. West himself. Dude, you don’t need a million dollars, Pamela Lee, and motorcycle stunts to make the video of the year. All you need is 25 minutes with a handycam and some jumprope. Don’t believe us? See for yourself after the jump, and pay attention to the timecode.

Sorry Kanye, Plumpah Humpah All Stars are better than you and Justice put together.

My Morning Jacket w/ John Prine. Music

Let’s switch gears here a bit…. This past Friday we were lucky enough to be invited down to The Wilshire Ebell Theatre to catch Jim James and Carl Broemel of My Morning Jacket perform an intimate 2 piece, stripped down opening set for the (somewhat) under the radar country/folk legend, John Prine. The combination of the Ebell’s classic 20’s architecture and Prines packed house of 60-something, fans, steered the night into more of a night out at the opera vibe. A refreshing kick start to our Halloween weekend for sure. More after the jump… more…

The Heart of Rock and Roll is Still Beating Music, Whatever

Tusked And Confused Music, Los Angeles, London

So this month’s issue of  Dazed And Confused, (Sofia Coppola cover, issue 43, Nov 06 for those taking notes) features a killer piece on edIT, the Silverlake based hip hop producer and DJ known for his glitchy-beastmaster steelo. I dunno if he has the same power grip as him or him, but his re-edits are pretty spastastic. Anyways what’s funny is that the piece was written by our boy Terence from London’s Patchwork Pirates with the photo shot by RJ Shaughnessy from LA… As seen from the right hand side over yonder, both dudes are Rabbit Tusk fam but never knew they would both be gracing the page as, well, credit buddies. Weird huh? Or is that just how they roll… Go cop a copy, it’s some air raid shIT.
