Brother Reade and Wu-Tang… Music, Los Angeles, North Carolina

clink

Whirlwind week. If you were among the lucky, you were in Echo Park during the fuck yeah fest. We were, and I had the pleasure of catching Issei Sagawa and Future Pigeon (scroll down to aug 19th on the link) on Friday night. On Saturday we played at the Echo with Foreign Born, The Rolling Blackouts, and Yayo Ming, to a club packed full of friends and flashbulbs. Directly after the set we hopped in Desert Eagles’car and headed straight to LAX (the airport, not the club), with our inexhaustible documentarian Rolls Joyce Shaughnessy in tow.

The red-eye was devoid of crying babies, but my adrenal levels were a bit too high post-stage and pre-wutang to really get much meaningful sleep. We landed and went straight to brunch, being the southern boys (ballers) that we are. If you don’t know about the grits at Mary’s Of Course you better ask somebody.

After an hour nap or so, we were in time for load-in, and were still on an energy rush when we took the stage. Bobby Evans was in killer form and I kept pretending it was “singing in the shower”. I felt like we gave the crowd a very good example of “how the fuck we do”. It’s something to play a show for a bigger crowd than you ever really have before, and it’s really something to open up for one of the most seminal rap-groups of all time, but to do both of those things in your hometown at such a rad venue definitely exceeds my capabilities for description. As for the Wu-Tang Clan’s performance? They absolutely killed it. Dead.

Rabid Rabbit Rapping Music, North Carolina

Despot graced NC with a clandestine performance that involved dim lighting and fetish costume, in a damp Greensboro basement. If you can’t respect that, your whole perspective is wack. Bonus photos after the jump. Thanks Kirby.
